Damon has been dancing his entire life, starting with vernacular Jazz/Blues first taught to him at the tender age of six by his grandmother. After nearly a decade of learning at the heels of his elders, he went on and eventually studied numerous dance forms until coming full circle in 1995 to focus primarily on the history and styles of partner dances as his family danced them with a special focus on the Southern Blues styles from the Mississippi Delta region. He has studied the development of vernacular Jazz/Blues dance across the United States learning from a number of the original dancers.
He is largely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on Blues idiom dance and has been interviewed as a dance historian in documentary, dissertation, podcast, radio, and newspaper. Damon has been a featured instructor at camps, festivals, and workshops around the world.

Kelsy brings her lifetime of dance training, a passion for vernacular dance, and a sharp eye for technique to the Blues dance world. She has brought her joy and knowledge of Blues idiom dances to some of the most important and high-profile events in the USA and across five continents, including but not limited to: bluesSHOUT!, The Experiment, Muse, Hearken the Blues, and Seoul Blues Dance Festival-serving as faculty, mentor, competition coordinator, and judge. Kelsy's critical eye and love of deep technique are tempered by her love of "dad jokes," getting lost in the music, and embracing of the ridiculous. She shows her appreciation of African American culture by speaking of the history of Blues idiom dance and taking her craft seriously, but never herself. She believes every mistake is an opportunity to learn, every class an opportunity to challenge, and every dance an opportunity to pay respect to those who came before.
Jenny Sowden

Jenny Sowden is an award winning, full-time, international dance instructor based in New York City where she is the founder and director of Brooklyn Swings. Jenny has been training in dance for over twenty-five years and teaching for over twenty, with a BA in Dance and Theater from San Diego State University. She has studied 34 different styles of movement including Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, West African, Capoeira, Aikido, Tango, Salsa, Lindy hop, Balboa, and Blues. Her background influences her teaching and general style through musicality, variety, expression and an understanding of body mechanics. Jenny believes the dance floor is a ‘World of Yes,’ where by constantly accepting and being inspired by what happens, creates an amazing place to be. Jae Wilson

Jae Wilson was a Germany-born, classically trained flautist who traded his flute and saxophone for dance shoes the first time he heard the call of the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies in Dayton, Ohio back in the early 2000s. From there he dabbled in the east coast’s Lindy Hop and West Coast Swing scenes before settling down in Portland’s heady Blues and Fusion scenes where he learned from PNW musicians and instructors. Since then he has danced, taught, competed and judged dance events across the United States and Europe. These days, Jae claims Denver, Colorado as his home, but you’ll find him honing his craft and shuffling his feet in the dark corners of dive bars, Juke Joints or Blues music festivals wherever his van will take him. While he does honor the giants who set the stage before us, Jae always seeks to amplify the voices of the living artists and dancers who shape the evolution of this American artform with us.
Dexter Santos

DEXTER SANTOS discovered Blues dancing in 2005 in San Francisco, California and found himself immediately drawn to the rhythms and sounds of the Blues. The emotional depth and range, the varied subjects and stories, the gut-wrenching and the hip-shaking, the gritty and the smooth would give new inspiration and expression to his dancing. With a background in Lindy Hop, Dexter has studied with and collaborated alongside leading figures in the global Blues dance community, earning a reputation as one of the most respected and engaging instructors on the international scene. Dexter’s dynamic style of movement has been honed and refined not only on the social dance floor but also through competition. Since the very first bluesSHOUT in St. Louis, Missouri in 2007, Dexter has won first place in numerous Blues dancing competitions around the United States and has won the title of Ballroomin' Blues champion at bluesSHOUT 3 times (2007, 2008, and 2010). In an unprecedented feat in which no one has ever duplicated, Dexter won all four partnered competitions at bluesSHOUT 2010 in Austin, Texas: Open Jack & Jill, Strictly Jook Joint, Strictly Ballroomin', and Champions Division. As a teacher, Dexter aims to inspire dancers of all levels with the possibilities that Blues dancing has to offer while preserving its cultural roots, historic identity, and art form. Dexter travels around the world spreading his passion and joy for Blues dancing through his fun, inspiring, and challenging classes. A particular class favorite often referred to as the "Shim Sham of Blues," the Hound Dog routine (a solo Blues choreography danced to Big Mama Thornton's song of the same title) has been taught and performed with dancers around the world in four continents.
Heidie Fite

Heidi Fite began dancing and teaching blues dances in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1999 and has been dancing, teaching, and performing ever since.
Raised in Arkansas on the rhythms of her grandmother’s backyard “hootenannies,” Heidi absorbed blues music and blues-idiom movement long before she realized the significance of what she was experiencing. Only later, as she began to study the history and cultural roots of the dances and music she loved, did she make the connection: what she loved instinctively was part of her heritage—a deep love of blues music and blues-idiom dance passed down from her grandmother.
In addition to her early experiences with blues dancing, Heidi’s knowledge of the form comes from extensive study of archival film footage, books and writings, and lectures and interviews with dancers and scholars including Algia Mae Hinton, Barry Douglas, Brenda Dixon Gottschild, Chester Whitmore, Dawn Hampton, Jacqui Malone, Katrina Hazard-Gordon, Lynne Fauley Emery, Norma Miller, Sugar Sullivan, and Sandra Gibson. Most influential in shaping her understanding of blues dance was her decade-long teaching partnership and collaboration with Damon Stone.
An early promoter of blues dancing, Heidi founded the first U.S. national blues dance workshop, Cheap Thrills, which later evolved into the nation’s largest blues dance competition weekend, bluesSHOUT!. Over the past 25 years, she has taught blues dancing in major cities across the U.S.—from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles—and nearly everywhere in between. She has served as faculty, mentor, lecturer, and competition judge at premier blues events such as Austin Blues Party, bluesSHOUT!, Blues Muse, Emerald City Blues, Mile High Blues, Steel City Blues, and The Experiment. Internationally, she has brought her years of experience and deep knowledge of blues-idiom dances to communities in Australia, Canada, England, France, Sweden, Israel, South Korea, and beyond.
Heidi continues to travel the world teaching blues dance as a living tradition—with a rich history and an exciting future. Her classes are both inspiring and challenging, but her focus on the underlying principles and fundamentals of the dance allows her to break down even the most difficult concepts and movements, making them easy to understand and embody. She communicates not only the technique of the dance but also its heart—instilling in her students a love of blues and a dedication to the learning process. Her classes will put some serious “boom boom boom” and “aw haw haw haw” in your dancing.
